Big News!

So things are pretty exciting here at the Geurts'! After weeks of baby talk and smiling until my face hurt, I think I've "taught" my little man how to smile!Although they are few and far between, they're absolutely adorable and can make me a puddle on the floor with just one glimpse of his baby smirk. Now if only I could capture it with my camera...

Adam didn't believe me until today when he got a glimpse of one for himself. Adam and Wil were having a little talk when Wil looked right into Adam's eyes and smiled! "He's smiling", he said! I guess it's the little things... being a parent is the best! :) I'll keep trying to get a picture!

Just out for a stroll...

Wil and I are loving this sunny April weather. We usually try to get outside each day to enjoy it too! Most of our time is spent on walks with Gravel, planting flowers, or just sitting out on our new deck. On Monday, Daddy got to join us for a walk after work! Usually Wil falls fast asleep during our excursions, but not this day - he looked all around, but mostly just stared at Adam!
Happy Spring!

Sunny Days!

I had to post this picture becuase I think it's so cute... if I do say so myself! Adam had Wil outside yesterday and decided it was a bit too sunny for him. He told him he could borrow his hat... it's amazing to think that someday it may actually fit!

1 Month Old - "Here's what we know"

Wil had his 1 month old check up today, complete with Hepatitis B Vaccination, which was worse for me than it was him... I think. In the future, I need to prepare myself for such horrors (I know there are many more yucky shots to come)! It was awful! My little man just laid there, helpless, while one nurse held him down and the other poked his meat-less thigh! His face turned bright red and his mouth opened wide - he was SO upset though, he couldn't even make a sound. Of course, I scooped him right up and held him tight, apologizing over and over again (as if it was MY fault)! I'll leave you with this more pleasant thought - one of my new favorite pictures...

Here are the MIGHTY STATS! Wil's growing like a weed!
Height - 19 3/4 inches (Growth since birth - 1 3/4 inches)
Weight - 7 lbs. 14 ounces (Weight Gain since birth - a whopping 2 lbs. 3 ounces)

Also, Wil's eating nearly 4 ounces every 4 hours; it sure is getting hard to keep up - I hope I don't run out! Another tidbit... (now nobody jinx us) Wil's slept just over 5 hours in a row for the last two nights! Are things starting to look up?!?! I'll keep you posted.

Happy Birthday Wil... You're 1 month old today!

My Baby Boy and Me
Author: Unknown

It's three a.m., they're all asleep
and no one's here to see
as we rock slowly back and forth,
my baby boy and me.

His little head is feather light
tucked up against my chin.
I hold his tiny hand in mine
and stroke his baby skin.

The house about us creaks and groans;
the clock hands creep around.
He snuggles closer to me still
and makes his baby sounds.

I love these quiet hours so much
and cherish everyone.
Store memories up inside my heart
for lonely nights to come.

And all too soon he'll be grown up,
his need for Momma gone,
but until then I still have time
for kisses and for song.

Time for quiet hours like this
with him cuddled in my arms;
where I wish he'd always stay -
protected, safe and warm.

And yet I know the day will come
when this tiny little hand
will be much bigger than my own -
he'll grow to be a man.

But, until then he's mine to love
with no one here to see;
as we rock slowly back and forth,
my baby boy and me.
Thank you for the poem Mom and Aunt Dawnie... from one Mommy to another - we love our boys!

Fun Finds!

So Wil and I have a lot of time to spend together these days. Sometimes I'm able to get a lot done, other days it seems like Wil won't let me put him down. After a full morning of snuggling, I decided I really needed to get to the laundry, "Wil, you're on your own". My little man refused all that I tried though - NO bouncie seat, NO swing (shocking), NO sitting in his carseat to look outside. So, I decided to get out the big guns - the baby backpack! I was sure Wil was too small for it, but I was desparate. After some intense planning, I was able to squeeze Wil in (with blankets placed strategically around him, which helped hold the runt in). Much to my surprise, he LOVED it! We walked around for nearly 1 hour in this thing and of course I couldn't resist a picture! The best part: I got lots done - laundry AND the dishes! Wil actually fell asleep in it too!

Daddy's Little Wing Man

Auntie Kayla got Wil this Top Gun onsie months ago... it's a 'newborn' size, but it's taken a couple of weeks to actually fit! Now that Wil weighs a whopping 6 lbs. 6oz. we're going to try some more clothes that have been hanging in our closet!

I love the following pictures... Adam has this strange ability to hold Wil in rather odd positions while keeping him completely content.

Whenever I feed Wil he cries until he's snug against me. Adam, on the other hand can do this...

which results in this.

I have no idea how he does it, but I will not complain. It's 8:30 and my Baby is asleep - hopefully until 12:00!

Happy Easter!

Wil celebrated his first holiday last weekend - Easter... which was also Mommy and Daddy's first anniversary! We spent the weekend at Grandma and Grandpa Fontana's house. Of course, the Easter Bunny came to their house, which is a good thing because he missed ours - oops! He also sent Wil a package in the mail. Apparently he stopped by Grandma and Grandpa Geurts' too! The fabulous thing about the Easter Bunny is that he includes outfits in the baskets, which is awesome for Mommas!

Here's Wil with his Uncle Tony who is holding his first Easter basket for him!

Grandpa Fontana also included a special gift for Wil's first holiday and let me tell you, I've been waiting for this gift for some time now... I knew my Dad was working on it!

My Dad built this adorable Rocking Horse for Wil! He's made them for my cousin's babies and I couldn't wait until Wil got his own! It is such a special gift and my parents had it engraved for us, or should I say for their "Precious Grandson". We all love it!
We had a great holiday weekend!

Projects, projects... all the time!

So, Wil and I have been lucky enough to have Adam home from work for the last two full weeks! I don't think he's had this much time off in over 3 years! Much to my surprise, he hasn't been too stir-crazy. He's enjoyed snuggling with Wil, changing diapers, late-night feedings, and day trips to the store.

I was waiting, however, for the 'project spark' to light - and it has! Adam spent two days this week (probably because he loves to do hard labor in the nice weather) in the backyard preparing for the deck we plan to build this month. The tasks included digging 5, 4 foot deep holes in the ground, filling said holes with cement, and then completing the filling with some kind of sand material. As usual, I watched from affair, basking in the greatness of a hard-workin' husband! I tell ya, he can build just about anything! Spring has sprung for the Geurts'... who knows what we'll be working on next?!?!

Swing Sanctuary

As I may have previously stated, our little man enjoys sleeping through the day, which means Adam and I have tried many, many different strategies to get him to sleep during the night. We've done it all - Wil sleeps with us, Wil gets rolled extra snug in his blankies, Wil wears a hat to bed, we turned up the heat in the house... some things worked - sometimes.

I think we may have figured it out though... knock on wood - THE SWING!
Wil has been LOVING his swing! Maybe it's the snugness, maybe it's the motion (which turns off after 10 minutes), maybe it's the light-up-underwater-scene he can watch in the middle of the night. Whatever it is, we're going with it! Last night Wil actually slept from 12:00-3:45! Woohoo! It's amazing how wonderful you can feel after nearly 4 FULL HOURS of sleep!
